Plans completely broke down this month, so it wasn't a regular tasting at all.  Instead, Ali & Andy came over for dinner of antipasto salad, followed by mushroom risotto topped with seared salmon.

From David's cellar came a tasty bubbly value from California, and a 2004 Barolo.

Schramsburg Brut Rosé Mirabelle Non-Vintage (North Coast).  Mineral-like scents, along with bread dough, grapefruit, and cranberry.  Honey and clove notes in the mouth to go with the cranberry flavors.  Hints  of aluminum and red apple as it warms.  Ali felt that is was "fun party girl who's not stupid", not unlike "Carrie Bradshaw".  David felt that is was "very pleasing, but intellectual at the same time".  About $25.

Marcarini Barolo Brunate 2004.  Leaves lots of sludge in the glass.  Smells of raisins, cedar wood, violets, and roses.  Powerful and youthful, but in a balanced way, with licorice and tar notes.  Dense.  Tannin and acidity are perfectly balanced.  At a really wonderful time in development, but will last another 10 years.  About $60.
